Year Running: 2018/2019
Credit level:
Pre-requisites   ACE0357

Description

This unit develops a variety of essential facts, principles and concepts from different branches of Chemistry, including physical, organic, inorganic and analytical. It is designed as an extension of the Chemistry A (Core) module, developing concepts encountered in that module, and introducing new material. Topics covered include spectroscopic techniques, common reactions and mechanisms, especially of the alkanes and alkenes, polymers, reactions of specific groups, redox reactions, equilibria and energies of reactions. There will be opportunities to apply this knowledge to core case studies surrounding the biological and chemical sciences, and laboratory sessions.
